New York City’s first generation of roof tanks was built in the early 1900s to offer fire protection to the city’s taller buildings. Our skyline just wouldn’t look the same without its rooftop wooden water tanks. But roof tanks are more than interesting architectural conversation pieces; they’re working parts of your building’s operating systems and deserve care and maintenance on a regular basis.

Roof Tank Cleaning is essential in order to keep the potable water clean and safe. New York City law requires all domestic water tanks to be clean and sanitized annually. Adhering to this regulation is important in order to insure that roof tanks are maintained and clean water is supplied to the tenant-shareholders of the building. Fred Smith Plumbing & Heating specializes in full service Roof Tank Cleaning.

Our Process

Fred Smith Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. provides full service like no other. Our staff notifies the NYC Fire Department of the scheduled shut-down (don’t forget, the building is completely without water during this cleaning service) coordinates with the managing agent and superintendents, arrives at the building, takes full responsibility for shutting down and draining the necessary systems, then drains the roof tank, cleans and sanitizes the roof tank, inspects the roof tank, reports any defects to management, and then activates all building water distribution and hot water re-circulation and circulating systems. At completion of the job, our technicians draw a water sample for analysis by a certified lab and the results are provided to the property manager.
